Buying Medicines Online Safely: A Checklist

A short, practical checklist for evaluating any online seller of OTC medication before you order.

Before You Order

  • Is the active ingredient and strength clearly listed?
  • Is a Drug Facts label shown or easily available?
  • Does the seller list a real business address and contact information?
  • Is the checkout process secure (https, a recognizable payment processor)?
  • Are dosing, warnings, and who-should-avoid information provided, not just a price?

Red Flags To Watch For

  • Prices dramatically below every competitor with no explanation.
  • No listed business address or way to contact customer support.
  • Claims that a product treats or cures conditions beyond its actual approved use.
  • No Drug Facts or ingredient information anywhere on the product page.

For Business Buyers

If you're purchasing on behalf of a pharmacy, clinic, or retailer, a legitimate wholesale supplier should ask you to verify your business and licensing before offering bulk pricing — a seller willing to sell unlimited bulk quantities to anyone with no verification at all is itself a red flag.
